Details

This spacious three bedroom home & guesthouse are located in North Akumal overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The home has Colonial/Caribbean architecture with two patios, an enclosed garden area, T/V, A/C, and a small bathing pool. The house is located directly on the water's edge, great for exploring, relaxing and soaking up sun. The guesthouse is just behind the villa.

A two story, Casa Caribe is a private, walled villa, offering security and complete privacy. The main house is 2500 square feet and decorated in Mexican-style, with beautiful, hand-carved furniture and original artwork. The master is upstairs, with oceanside balcony and roof viewing. The other two bedrooms and adjoining baths, are downstairs, along with the living room, dining room, and full kitchen. The furnished back porch is seaside and private, while the front garden/patio has a pool and large deck area with arbor, lounge chairs, and gas grill. The guest house at the front of the property is one bedroom with adjoining bath, living room, and small kitchen, and can sleep an additional three people. This is a wonderful home for a family or group of friends, with ceiling fans throughout, air conditioned bedrooms, maid service six days a week, and a gardener/handy man at your service.

Set on the rocky coastline of a world famous coral reef, within a short walking distance of two beautiful white sand beaches on the Caribbean sea, the villa, Casa Caribe offers all the traditional charm of Mexico; red tiled roofs, the rustle of palm leaves in the sea breeze, and riotous stars, all with the breathtaking view of the ocean or jungle from every window.

Take a plane to Cancun, rent a car, and drive one hour south to Akumal, and find yourself in the low key paradise you've been looking for. Does swimming or snorkeling in an aquarium sound good? A few minutes walk to Yalku Lagoon is recommended on a daily basis to refresh your sense of natural living.

You'll find world class snorkeling and scuba diving anywhere along the 250 mile reef; some of the best right out the back door! It won't take long to find a sea turtle in the water or a nest on the shore, as Akumal means 'Place of the Turtle' in Mayan. While you're sipping a 'cold one,' and munching on chips, homemade salsa, and ceviche, the kids will discover the pizza parlor and ice cream vendor.

Akumal, with it's beautiful beaches, is small, clean, environmentally aware, and just minutes away from Mayan ruins, caves, underground rivers, golf courses, and jungle explorations. Dive shops, great restaurants, and a grocery store are walking distance from the house. This is the land of white sugar sand, reef outcroppings, and exotic wildlife, set on the turquoise coast of your dreams!
Tropical  sun, refreshing shaded areas, stunning beaches, and trade wind breeze ... Sound good? Book Casa Caribe today!

A perfect getaway for our extended friend/family mix of 6 people. The town was a lovely mix of tourism and solitude - avoiding the crowds of Playa del Carmen and Cancun turned out to be a serendipitously excellent choice. The house was well-kept, had beautiful views, and was easy walking distance to a number of restaurants, bars, and beaches. We loved day trips to Cozumel, Cenote Dos Ojos, and Tulum/Playa Paraiso. We enjoyed the maid's cooking (but note that the prices, at the time we asked for the service, were not as listed in the house brochure - it was $10 per person for the food and $7 for the service, per person. A great option still, and a ton of food. If we were the type to go on vacation to the same place as we'd already been, we'd without a doubt stay here again!

Our stay at Casa Caribe was relaxing/peaceful; house has all the advertised features plus some. Christina is a doll, and took awesome care of us, including special requests & dinner (a 'must-do'...do early in the week for leftovers). She communicated with us in spite of our broken Spanish. Didn't see/notice Luis; didn't see Rhett until part way thru week; didn't matter as house was ready and set for us. House has everything you need for the stay; nothing else we felt we needed. Owner and Christina were very responsive to requests (extra towels, etc.), and owner responded promptly to any questions. The pool was perfect for cool-off dips, especially since it was toasty warm during our stay (AC required for a comfy night's sleep). House is spacious, and we never felt crowded with 6 of us. Main floor bedrooms are good size (limited closet space in one) and each has attached bath (one with second door to hallway for convenience). The upstairs master is amazing, with a large tub, gorgeous deck and ocean views from bedroom and shower. Television area was comfy (used mainly for slide shows of pics taken; TV has extra HDMI connection) with TV being a bit small (~25 or 32 inch). The Wi-Fi worked fine during our stay. Location is easy walk to La Buena Vida (restaurant/entry spot for snorkeling in half-moon bay [HMB]) and reasonable walk to Akumal & bay. Elderly folks (~80) with us, so needed car shuttle for those journeys with them. We snorkeled at HMB, Yal-ku and with turtles at Akumal bay...all were great. Yal-ku charges $14 if you enter through land (free via long snorkel from HMB). Most literature at house regarding sites, etc. is a bit outdated - prices have gone up, and some places changed or gone. Update would be good for future visitors. Ocean behind house was too rough to enter directly for snorkeling; not sure if ever calm enough due to the rocks (tempting tho). Not an issue with Buena Vida and HMB beach only a 5 minute walk away. Location was excellent base for visits to Mayan Ruins and Cenotes. Definitely recommend rental car if sightseeing. Also recommend visit to Akumal Pueblo across highway for authentic Mexican flavor w/ variety of restaurants/food vendors for the adventurous. Grocery shop at Playa & convert some $ to pesos. Local exchange rates highly variable and no credit cards for gas. Overall, I would love to return to Akumal, and would not hesitate to stay at Casa Caribe again. Stayed in May 2015

Beautiful house and location We had a great week at Casa Caribe. The house is wonderful -- spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. Perfect location. We loved being on the rocks instead of the beach. And be sure to have Christina cook for you -- that was our best meal of the week. Stayed: March 2015 Recommended for: Families with teenagers

Perfect for the 3 amigos Three friends travelled to Mexico. We arrived in Cancun in February, went to Merida for a week, then back to Cancun to pick up a rental car. Easyway Car Rental - it really was! THEN: heaven! We drove (easy drive) to Akumal, stopping at a large grocery story right on the highway in Puerta Aventuras to stock up. Following the directions provided with the rental packet, we easily found Casa Caribe. The pictures do not do it justice - the place is drop-dead gorgeous. We spent 10 nights there, one of us walking 12 minutes to Akumal Bay each morning for an early snorkel, accompanied on some days by one of the other two, when they did not go for early morning yoga sessions. Then the casual breakfast and morning lounge on the sandy area in front of the house. Or an excursion to Tulum...or just driving around looking at the ex-pat community in Chemuyil (sp?)...or looking for take-out chicken in the pueblo. But a lot of our time was spent at the Casa. The pool was perfect for cool-off dips in the afternoons and before bed. We never used the AC - the ocean breezes kept the house a perfect temperature. Chrisitna and her husband cooked dinner one night and we ate the amazing leftovers for 2 days! Christina also did laundry for us (we tipped her extra). Rhett - what a great manager. He was available to answer all of our questions and he never steered us wrong. He gave us the name of the greatest masseuse who came over twice for massages on the upstairs, ocean-facing roof deck. Talk about relaxing! He told us where to buy groceries, what to eat, the best times for popular places (like Tulum). He was like a living, breathing travel manual! Luis kept the place spotless and the drinking water bottle replaced. Silently. He was like this incredible ghost who just made the pool clean and the windows see-through and shrubbery trimmed. But if we needed him (like when we wanted to know where to rinse off snorkel equipment) - poof - he was there, huge smile on his face. The house itself is huge, with a large refrigerator and all the pots and pans and cookware to make dining in easy and convenient. Each bedroom has an attached bathroom which was very nice. The upstairs master is amazing, with a big soaking tub and a gorgeous deck. I slept up there (a reward for making all the travel plans) but we all shared the great amenities of the upstairs. The television area was comfy for watching the few movies we watched. The wi-fi worked well. We will definitely return to Casa Caribe.
