The sandy beach in front of La Joya is a great place to catch some rays and take advantage of the gorgeous view of Half Moon Bay. Beach lounges and an outdoor shower are provided for your tanning sessions, or you can park yourself under the thatched umbrella and chill out in the shade. For the energetic, Half Moon Bay is good for swimming and snorkeling coral heads in low surf. Yal ku Lagoon is nearby for snorkeling with lots of fish in zero surf.
The photos show the various units, each similar but with their own touches. La Joya now offers a brand new pool!

La Joya #3, one bedroom studio, ground floor (can be rented with #2 as two bedroom condo)
All our vacations revolve around snorkeling. Akumal was a terrific central site for visiting the area! We loved the snorkeling around Akumal! The ocean is full of coral in front of the hotels on North Akumal Bay, and depending on the tide can be wavy. Because the water is shallow, it got tricky when we were near the coral. On the other hand we saw turtles and rays and angels galore. South Akumal Bay was nicer to get in and out of, but there wasn't really the ocean front accomodations like on North Bay. It was also busy with lots of young local children with their parents. Do not miss Yalku Bay. It was the best snorkeling I have ever done. We walked there from our condo (La Joya) and went early before the crowds, and again late in the day. Don't forget to try a ceynote to snorkel. The water, though cooler than the ocean was still quite comfortable...and even I (who hate cold water) had no trouble getting in. We went south into the national park and after a 90 minute BUMPY ride, found a deserted beach. Spent 4 hours enjoying it by ourselves. Beautiful sand, but no coral.
