This was indeed a grand hotel when built in 1901; and it retains many elegant and delightful decorative flourishes. The 28 rooms have period furnishings; some overlook Parque Hidalgo, which hosts closed streets to bicycles on Sunday, and festivals on weekends and holidays. Merida is famous for it's Carnival parades, which are daily for almost a week each year. The parade route is outside the hotel. the Gran Hotel is located just steps from the Zocalo (Main Square), and across from a park which hosts the oldest church in the area.

Merida's International Airport is 20 minutes away. The hotel opened in at the turn of the century, and has been restored following the French Neoclassical style, fitting right into the "white city". It has been used as set in movies and fashion shows and has hosted actors, writers and politicians. Among the facilities you will find a travel agency, laundry, parking, safety deposit box and restaurant. Long distance calls are available.
